Florida - Part 1

Well, we're back from Florida, so I'm going to start the sorting through of the pictures. You're going to get one day at a time, cause otherwise the task seems a little overwhelming. This is the first hotel we stayed at (the Sheraton Safari) from Thursday until Sunday. Mike has Sheraton points from staying in Calgary so much, so the hotel was free and we got upgraded to a suite.

Thursday night after arriving and settling into our hotel, we went to downtown Disney for a quick look in the shops. Then Friday was spent at Animal Kingdom. The kids had never been to this park, so it was all new stuff for them.

We met lots of characters (Ben's favourite thing to do). The parks were all still decorated for Christmas.

We went on the safari ride and got some really great close-up views of the animals. Can you spot all three giraffes in this picture?

Throughout the ride, the driver kept getting calls on his walkie-talkie about where good animal viewings were, and then he had this whole act going about poachers in the park who had stolen a baby elephant. At the end of the ride we helped save the baby elephant and got to see him in this truck (below)(the only mechanical animal on this ride). Ben leaned over to me and whispered "is the baby elephant really going to be okay?"

We got to see a parade....

and a Lion King show. A great first day.
